Abstract

This article examines the anti-war resistance narrative in the poetry of Abul Ijaz Hafeez Siddiqui, a distinguished voice in Urdu literature whose verses are profoundly imbued with human pathos, the horrors of armed conflict, and an earnest longing for peace. Drawing upon both his nazms and ghazals, the study analyzes how Hafeez Siddiqui responded to catastrophic events of the twentieth century, particularly the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the prolonged dispossession of the Palestinian people, transforming collective grief into powerful literary protest. His poetry demonstrates how the poet foregrounded the suffering of women, children, and the natural world to heighten the moral urgency of an anti-war stance. The article further argues that Hafeez Siddiqui advocates for knowledge as a force for human welfare rather than destruction. He also satirizes powerful countries for their failure to stop wars.
